The Internet has become the most widely-used resource for medical-related terminology. To achieve our universal goal of finishing a report with integrity, even the best and most experienced healthcare documentation workers may need to perform Internet searches daily. Like any other tool we use, we need to hone our Internet research skills and be certain we are using them most effectively. Attendees will come away armed with information that will help them become Internet research super sleuths. Among the topics to be presented will be techniques for effective searching and methods to identify legitimate and reliable websites. We will look at popular medical transcription websites, and we will demonstrate various ways to organize favorite and frequently used sites for quick access. Last, but not least, we will look at avoiding the sneaky ways that technology and the Internet can be distractions and time stealers.

 

After attending the webinar, participants will be able to:

• Perform effective voice and keyboard-entry searches

• Identify the elements of trustworthy websites

• Organize frequently used sites for quick access

• Identify time-stealing distractions and implement strategies to avoid them

 

Bio: Sue Krajewski is an instructor and student advisor for the Medical Transcription and Editing program, as well as Medical Coding classes at Everett Community College. After studying medical records technology at Shoreline Community College and receiving her associates degree, she transcribed onsite in hospital settings and medical clinics from Everett, Washington, to Honolulu, Hawaii. She opened a transcription service in 1993, Professional Transcription Services, which she operated for about 20 years. She was honored to serve on the staff at the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity a few years ago as Professional Practices Coordinator, which included both workforce development and educational aspects of the profession. She now enjoys volunteering on the Educators Alliance Steering Committee and the Credentialing Commission for the Association and enjoys serving on the Board of Governors for AHDI-West.
 
Sue makes her home on Anderson Island, Washington, about a 20-minute ferry ride and an hour and a half drive from the Everett Community College campus. She finds living on a beautiful and peaceful Pacific Northwest island and having a career that allows her to work remotely truly to be the best of both worlds.
