Title: Burn Care—Assessment, Treatment, and Patient Support

Session Description: This presentation will cover types of burns, tools used to diagnose depth and percentage of burns, as well as the treatment of burns. We’ll talk about the statistics for 2022 related to depth of injury and length of stay. This session will include the American Burn Association’s recommendations for referral and transfer to a burn center and programs for burn survivors dealing with a life-changing injury.

Bio: Curtis Ryun has been an employee at Legacy Medical Center since July 1980. He began as a CNA in the Oregon Burn Center in 1981 after 6 years spent 1 year as an RN on the neuro unit. He then worked 21 years on the night shift in the OBC at the bedside doing adult and pediatric medical and critical care. For the last 14 years, he has been the outreach coordinator, speaking to and teaching multiple groups about burn care and transfer. He is the 2011 March of Dimes Nurse of the Year and the 2018 ABA National Burn Prevention Award recipient.
