Day 1: Scribe Survival Guide: Navigating the Wild World of Veterinary Medical Scribing, Legal Traps, and Exotic Beasts

Session: Scribe Survival Guide: Navigating the Wild World of Veterinary Medical Scribing, Legal Traps, and Exotic Beasts

Presenter: Katelin McConkey, DVM

Session Description:

This session aims to streamline your scribing process amidst differing scribing styles of different doctors. Maintaining a consistent style across all your scribe assessments helps with efficiency, organization, and having detailed completion of records. Doctors do every exam the same way, so as not to miss anything; this can be extrapolated to finding a consistent scribing style that is your own. We will discuss how the wording of certain phrases can mean the difference between a lawsuit and a dismissed claim in this increasingly litigious society. To close out the session, we will discuss some important anatomical differences of exotic pocket pets that are becoming increasingly more popular pets.

Learning objectives
1.    Identify strategies for maintaining a consistent scribing style across assessments, regardless of doctor variability.
2.    Recognize the benefits of a standardized scribing approach in promoting efficiency, organization, and record completeness.
3.    Evaluate how specific phrasing in medical records can influence legal outcomes and protect against liability.
4.    Describe key anatomical differences in exotic pocket pets relevant to accurate and thorough documentation.
