Mindful Movements and Mindful Moments…Anywhere, Anytime

Presenters: Brett Wade, PhD, PT, and Siri Marken, MEd, OT, E-RYT 500, YACEP

Description: This presentation will provide some tools to mitigate the adverse effects of sitting and acute effects of stress. Sitting and stress are common and unavoidable parts of our working and private lives. In themselves, they are neither good nor bad, but finding balance is the key. You will learn a few poses that can easily be done anywhere and by anyone, no matter your experience. You will also learn how to use acute stress to your advantage and how to prevent chronic stress from causing negative health effects.

Attendees will learn:

1. The difference between acute stress and chronic stress.
2. Why sitting is considered the “new smoking.”
3. Why movement is the key, not the position.
4. A few simple standing and sitting movements that can be done periodically throughout the day to mitigate the effects of static postures.
5. What is meant by “mindfulness” and the health benefits and simple ways to practice mindfulness.
