Title: A Fresh Look at Hospice and Palliative Care
Presenter: John Mulder, MD
Credit: 1 Clinical Medicine
Session Description: In the 40+ years since Congress established the Hospice Medicare Benefit, hospice has become the norm for caring for patients at the end of life. However, it has undergone continued change as alternative practice delivery models have evolved, and the explosion and diversity of palliative care programs has further expanded the options available to people facing serious, advanced, and terminal illness. This session will review the history of hospice and palliative medicine and distinguish these two exclusive areas of medical care. It will also provide insight as to the roles that each play in contemporary medicine and the potential for future developmental trends in these fields.
