Session Description: This webinar will highlight the importance of sleep in relation to mental health to broaden the knowledge base of healthcare documentation specialists. The webinar will briefly review terms and phrases used by clinicians when describing sleep disorders. Then we’ll discuss screening tools used in the assessment of sleep disorders as well as the pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatments to improve sleep initiation and continuation, with a specific emphasis on the importance of sleep hygiene.

Bio: Jessica Clemons graduated second in her class from Baylor University with a BS in nursing. She earned her master’s in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington, with an emphasis in Psychiatry and Mental Health. She is board certified by the national organization ANCC to care for the mental health needs of individuals across the lifespan. In her experience as a PMHNP, Clemons has worked with adults and children providing psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, medication management, and therapy. She particularly enjoys incorporating the use of therapeutic interventions such as insight-oriented therapy, behavioral activation therapy, solution-focused therapy, active listening, motivational interviewing, and health-promotion techniques for patients living with a variety of mental health diagnoses including major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and chemical dependency.
