This presentation will focus on the Binary Data Import (BDI) process—a process in which front-end staff scans documents, HIM staff indexes and QAs the information, and then the information is released into the EHR for treatment, payment, and healthcare operations. In this presentation, we’ll walk through each of these steps as well as how end users can access the information and the many benefits obtained from this interesting process that takes multiple pieces of technology and combines their use to get information into the patients’ records quickly and securely.

About the Speaker

Nicole Loughry is a coordinator of the WVU Medicine-WVUH Medical Records Department responsible for the day-to-day operations of optical imaging, chart analysis, and release of information. As part of her role, she was instrumental in operationalizing the BDI process and is responsible for rolling out this process to more area clinics to achieve greater benefit to the organization.
