Description

Title: Cardiac Care of Cancer Patients/Survivors

Presenter: Moura M. Dabbouseh, MD, MS, FACC

Credit: 1 Clinical Medicine

Session Description: Cardio-oncology is an emerging field that focuses on the cardiac care of cancer patients and cancer survivors. Because cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for more deaths annually than all cancers combined, the practice of cardio-oncology has developed as a response to a need for cardiovascular care of patients undergoing cancer therapeutics. This session will cover the practical implications and management considerations of the cardiovascular care of patients who have or have had cancer as well as the possible effects cancers and cancer therapies can have on the cardiovascular system. We will discuss the treatment of cardiovascular disease in this patient population. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the session will discuss ways to protect the heart and prevent or reduce the risk of heart disease in a cancer patient.
