Session Description: This webinar will provide an overview of current mental health care trends to broaden the knowledge base of healthcare documentation specialists. It will include a discussion of the DSM-V diagnostic criteria for a variety of common psychiatric diagnoses to familiarize documentation specialists with some of the terminology used in mental health care. It will highlight some the latest treatments in mental health care, including commonly prescribed medications and the use of novel treatments and therapies.

Learning Objectives
1. Identify DSM-V diagnostic criteria for common mental health disorders.
2. Recognize medications used in the treatment of mental health disorders.
3. Describe new treatment modalities used to treat mood and anxiety disorders.
4. Recognize key words from the mental status exam when used as part of the psychiatric evaluation.
5. Understand the big picture when documenting medication management in mental health.

Bio: Jessica Clemons graduated second in her class from Baylor University with a BS in nursing. She earned her master’s in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington with an emphasis in Psychiatry and Mental Health. She is board certified by the national organization ANCC to care for the mental health needs of individuals across the lifespan. In her experience as a PMHNP, Clemons has worked with adults and children providing psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, medication management and therapy. She particularly enjoys incorporating the use of therapeutic interventions such as insight-oriented therapy, behavioral activation therapy, solution focused therapy, active listening, motivational interviewing, and health promotion techniques for patients living with a variety of mental health diagnoses including MDD, GAD, PTSD, Bipolar and Mood Disorders, ADHD, and chemical dependency.
