Session Description: How well do you understand what a power of attorney (POA) for healthcare is, and why is it so important to discuss and establish one before it is actually needed? Would you be able to explain what it is to a patient or to someone you care about? How about you? Is your healthcare POA documentation in order?
Each of us will find ourselves in a position where we hope that someone has previously shared their wishes and designated a POA for healthcare. Join us as we clarify the Healthcare Power of Attorney (HCPOA). This session will also offer practical tools that attendees can use for healthcare planning, for themselves and others.
Having to guess what a loved one's wishes are as far as treatment and/or what he/she would do given limited choices or unforeseen circumstances, can be terrifying. When we have these conversations and prepare ourselves ahead of time, the result is clarity for all involved. That is the crux of every healthcare power of attorney conversation, and that is what we will discuss in this webinar.
Maria is a healthcare documentation specialist and registered nurse employed by Mayo Clinic in direct patient care/primary care, primarily adult health. This role provides opportunities for deep conversations with patients and their loved ones about what they want for their future healthcare. It required her to take a crash course on healthcare power of attorney and how to discuss it with patients. Maria believes strongly that providing clarity to one’s loved ones is kindness.
