Session Description: This session will focus on the identification and treatment of major depressive disorders with seasonal patterns—also known as seasonal affective disorder or seasonal depression. Attendees will better understand the risk factors, causes, diagnosis, and treatment of this disorder, which is frequently underdiagnosed.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identification of the risk factors and causes of seasonal affective disorder.
  2. Review of the diagnostic criteria for seasonal affective disorder.
  3. Review of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments for seasonal affective disorder.

About the Speaker: Dr. Ruggiero is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in adult outpatient mental health services. She completed her residency training program at Richmond University Medical Center in 2023, where she now works as an attending psychiatrist, with a focus on medication management, psychotherapy, and resident supervision. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of mental health disorders and is passionate about teaching and education.
