Session Description:

The maze of privacy and security hampered with relentless cybersecurity threats is already challenging enough without a worldwide pandemic. As healthcare professionals work tirelessly to save lives from the COVID-19 virus in every state, healthcare risks to data privacy are more daunting than ever. This session will shed light on what is happening in healthcare arenas as the fight to manage the virus is shadowed by the likelihood of a second wave. We will take a look back about 100 years when the Spanish Flu of 1918 ravaged the world. Although life was simpler (but deadlier) then, navigating this 21st century pandemic with an infusion of cybersecurity threats has added a new level of uncertainty in the quest of finding our way through this to a new normal.

Learning Objectives
    1. Discuss the current state of privacy and security regulations in healthcare.
    2. Report the progress of the pandemic.
    3. Review what happened in 1918 and lessons we can learn from it.
    4. Explain how cybersecurity threats can impact healthcare during a pandemic.
    5. Describe how we navigate our way to a new normal.
