Title: Scribes in the Hospital Setting

Presenter: Clark Vredevoogd, MBA

CEC: 1 Professional Development (PD)

Session Description:  Our presenter will discuss the role scribes play in our healthcare system and how they focus on assisting healthcare providers in local health settings, which benefits individuals looking to further their career in healthcare documentation. Students and graduates state-wide participate in a free training program prior to becoming a scribe. Training takes place in a variety of settings including online and in the emergency department as well as by doing in-person simulations. This presentation will provide an overview of the history of Helix, the role of a scribe, and the many benefits provided when scribes are implemented in the health setting.

About the Speaker: Clark Vredevoogd is the Director of Operations for Helix Scribe Solutions. After graduating from Michigan State University in 2015, where he received his bachelor’s in Science, he returned to West Michigan to work for Helix. Since that time, the company and his role within it have seen significant changes and growth. After returning to school the following year, he graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2019 with a master’s degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Health Sector Management. Being Grand Rapids born and raised, he thoroughly enjoys being able to give back to healthcare organizations by sharing his knowledge.
