This session will provide an in-depth look at cancer nurse navigators, including the essential duties and impact of the oncology nurse navigators. Participants will learn how navigators guide patients through the cancer journey by coordination of care, educating patients and families, identifying and removing barriers, and supporting individuals from diagnosis through survivorship.

The session will also highlight new and emerging cancer therapies, technologies, and procedures that are shaping modern oncology care and influencing the navigator’s role. The attendees will gain a clear understanding of how nurse navigators improve patient outcomes, streamline the care experience, enhance communication across multidisciplinary teams, and support equitable access to care. Teresa is a nursing and healthcare leadership professional with more than 20 years of experience in oncology nursing, nurse navigation, care coordination, case management, and hospice services. She currently serves as Nurse Manager for Care Coordination at Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she leads multidisciplinary teams, develops performance metrics, and drives process improvement initiatives. Her background includes roles as an Assistant Nurse Manager, Oncology Nurse Navigator, case manager, oncology charge nurse, and hospice nurse liaison. Recognized with the Freddie Webster RN Award for Nursing Excellence, Teresa brings a comprehensive, data-driven perspective to the evolving role of the nurse navigator.
