Presenter: Pat Bowen, CMT, AHDI-F

Bio: Pat Bowen has been involved in medical transcription for 58 years. She has owned three businesses, been QA and managers at transcription companies, and has worked at doctors’ offices and hospitals. She has been an educator since 1989 and currently works as a grader for CanScribe, a medical transcription, AHDI-approved school in Canada. Pat has been involved in AHDI and held many positions at the local, state, and national levels. She is currently President of the Florida state association of AHDI. 

Session Description: 

Do you work with someone you’d consider to be “difficult”? You know, who often has a negative or confrontational demeanor, who makes sarcastic or flippant remarks, seems unmotivated or disinterested, or whose emails sound harsh or accusing? Or do any of these descriptions fit you?
 
No one likes feeling misunderstood or unimportant. Just as some personalities are well suited, others clash like the Titans. Some people are introverts and some extroverts—each of which thinks, feels, and acts differently than the other. Some people work together in the office setting, while others work remotely. Finding ways to bridge the gaps of timing, environment, and personality is important to building stronger relationships and lessen miscommunications. Learning new ways of communicating can disarm someone, spare hurt feelings, or help them feel valued. Likewise, it never hurts to self-reflect to find areas in which you, too, can improve.
 
Based on my many years of experience at all working levels, I will be sharing some tips on how to deal with difficult or confrontational people, how to provide a welcoming environment in which people feel encouraged and heard, and how to communicate more positively and more effectively in person versus through email. Join us for this webinar to learn how to speak from a “half-full glass” point of view rather than a “half-empty” one.
