Description

Records get personal when you are the patient. Whether it is volunteering for clinical trials or dealing with patient Release of Information (ROI), clinical documentation, data propagation, timing and presentation, or systems integration, all can and do fail frequently with or without technology and people. This session will deepen attendees’ understanding of the impact that document creation, integrity, and distribution have on the patient through the eyes of a 60-year-old technologist, as he became a throat cancer patient undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. The session will also include a personal statement from the presenter on how the power of faith, prayer, art, and love affected his diagnosis, treatment, and recovery process.

Attendees will:

  1. Learn how automated ROI can fail the patient.
  2. Learn how systems integration can instantly misinform the patient.
  3. Understand how clinicians can easily err in documentation integrity.
  4. Understand the increased importance of people in every stage of the record.

Mr. Faulkner has enjoyed industry involvement since 1979 in private industry as well as Board participation. He has held senior management positions at Lanier, VDI, Dictaphone, Rodeer, Speech Machines, and was a co-founder at InterFix LLC. Board participation at AAMT, MTIA, Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial, and several local boards are also part of his life history. He serves now as Economic and Community Development Coordinator for Newaygo, Michigan, a city of about 2000 people, and still plays a mean guitar.
