Dr. Blackman has served as a consultant to many public agencies and has had experience during his 48 years practicing psychiatry and psychoanalysis with many different disturbances, including eating disorders. For the year 2018-2019, he served as a teacher and consultant to the Jiao Tong Medical University Hospital’s Eating Disorders Unit in Shanghai, China, both onsite and online.
Becky began her career in 1996 and has over 25 years of experience in healthcare documentation as a medical transcriptionist, editor, account manager, and program manager. Becky currently works at Penn Foster Group/CareerStep as a manager of the Healthcare Documentation and Wellness Program. Becky earned her master’s degree from the University of Texas in Kinesiology in 2010 and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee in Health Administration in 1994. She earned her CHDS and CHDP-S credentials from AHDI in 2022.
Dr. Patricia Dettlinger is a former practice owner, adjunct professor at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, and is a Regional Medical Director for VCA. She has provided training for hundreds of veterinarians, technicians, technician assistants, customer service representatives, and hospital managers on EMRs, medical record quality, and efficiency.
Jason Feifer is the editor in chief of Entrepreneur magazine, a podcast host, book author, keynote speaker, startup advisor, and nonstop optimism machine. His goal is to help you become more resilient and adaptable in a world of constant change—so you can seize new opportunities before anyone else does!
Tina Hincka, RHDS, AHDI-F, recently celebrated 30 years at Corewell Health (previously Spectrum Health). Her career began when she attended Ross Education in Livonia, MI, and completed a cardiology transcription internship. After moving back to Lansing, where she grew up, she took a part-time position as a transcriptionist in the pathology department at a local hospital. She now lives in the Grand Rapids area and has been married for 36 years, has two children, Ryan and Sarah, and three little granddaughters who brighten her days and keep her busy at the same time.
She learned about AHDI several years after working in the HIM department at Corewell Health. She volunteered with the West Michigan Chapter and held positions to include media specialist, secretary, and two terms as president.
She has served as an AHDI board member for almost three years, participating in several committees, attending many conferences, and currently serving as president. Tina recognizes the many changes since she first began her career but has had fun every step of the way and has learned so much. Her ambitions include earning the new CHDP-A credential in the future.
Kathleen “Kat” King, ASHI, AHDI-F, has been in the healthcare documentation industry since 1974, having owned or managed medical transcription services for over 25 years. She has always enjoyed the technological side of healthcare documentation, earning a degree in Healthcare Informatics 10 years ago. She is currently Vice President, Customer Success, for Cybexys, Inc., a healthcare technology solution specializing in AI-powered coding, auditing, claims gap closure, and analytics. The capture of SDoH documentation has become a key point in improving our Nation’s health. Kat is involved in addressing this need with a variety of Cybyexs clients, including provider groups/health systems, health plans, and coding companies. She has been a long-time member of AHDI, served on the Board of Directors and multiple committees, and has received numerous awards.
Patt King, CHDS, CHDP, AHDI-F, is the current AHDI President for the 2023-2024 year. She has been the manager of a team of healthcare documentation specialists at Tucson Medical Center (TMC) in Tucson, Arizona, for the past 11 years. Patt is also a former AHDI President. Most recently, she co-chaired the Best Practices Task Force that created AHDI’s new Healthcare Documentation Integrity Auditing (HDIA) Implementation Best Practices Guide. She has also served as a lead or co-lead on several other AHDI projects over the years. Patt’s team at TMC worked in traditional medical transcription for many years then transitioned to healthcare documentation integrity auditing for both acute care and radiology in 2019. This forward-thinking team is now transitioning to pre-services medical necessity analysis in which they will use their valuable skills as HDSs on behalf of TMC’s Revenue Cycle to reduce insurance payor denials.
Alyssa Lee is the co-owner and managing partner at Mei Mei Dumplings.
Mr. Liles’ background is rather unique. In addition to a law degree, he holds a master’s degree in health care administration and an M.B.A. Robert has worked on the provider side as a federal prosecutor and now represents physician practices around the country in connection with Medicare and private payor audits and investigations. While working as a federal prosecutor, he was asked to serve as the country’s first National Health Care Fraud Coordinator for the DOJ’s Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys. Since entering private practice, Robert has continued to build on his health care background and experience.
Jessica Miller is a dedicated health care professional who began her career working in Ambulatory Surgery Center development and consulting. She obtained her master’s in Health Administration from the University of South Carolina, and after working in regulatory affairs and physician credentialing, she moved into Revenue Cycle Management, obtaining her CPC in 2010. She is currently the subject matter expert for MediCodio, a software company developing AI/Machine learning software to help coders increase efficiency and accuracy in code selection.
Cyndi left the healthcare documentation industry after nearly 20 years to start her own business, Sandusky Editorial Services. As a freelance copyeditor, proofreader, and transcriptionist, she keeps abreast of all legislation that can impact independent contractors/freelancers.
Dr. Lowery is the Section Chief of Adolescent Medicine at Corewell Health West. She has been practicing for 18 years providing both subspecialty and primary care for teens and young adults. Dr. Lowery received her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric Residency program at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Michigan State University/Grand Rapids. Dr. Lowery completed a subspecialty fellowship in Adolescent Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. While at the Johns Hopkins, she obtained a Master of Public Health in the Department of Population and Family Health Sciences.
Nancy is a board-certified neurodevelopmental pediatrician who recently retired after 37 years of practice. Her practice over the years focused on the care of children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and those born extremely prematurely or with birth complications. Research interests included developmental outcomes and treatment of associated conditions that often accompany cerebral palsy, such as sleep and feeding disorders.
Ashley Morgan is a Partner in Liles Parker’s DC office. Ashley focuses her practice on regulatory health care compliance matters, fraud and abuse, and reimbursement issues. Ms. Morgan represents health care providers across the country in connection with a wide variety of health law issues including coverage disputes, documentation concerns, compliance, medical board complaints, in addition to revocation, exclusion, and termination issues. She has worked with an assortment of providers including dentists, home health companies, hospice agencies, pain management practices, primary care and specialty physicians, mental health professionals, and physical therapists. Ms. Morgan is also a Certified Professional Coder, a Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist, and a Certified Medical Compliance Officer.
Caitlin Bourbonnais is an honours graduate of CanScribe’s Medical Transcription/Healthcare Documentation Specialist program who has been working as a medical transcriptionist since 2017. She joined the CanScribe team in 2020, and in 2022 she assisted the team with curriculum development for the Virtual Scribe program alongside her other instructional duties. Caitlin enjoys volunteering with adult literacy and art programs, and reading many books, with a hot tea and her cat.
Sara Berry is an experienced online instructor at CanScribe Career College, with a 15-year background in the medical transcription industry. Possessing expertise in training medical transcriptionists and, more recently, virtual scribes, as well as active involvement in curriculum development, she brings an abundance of knowledge and skills aimed at empowering aspiring healthcare professionals.
Delancey Prince, RDN, LD, is a registered media dietitian, communications specialist, and writer. By day, she serves as the Nutrition Communications and Project Manager for the Dairy Council of Nevada, where she engages in creative problem-solving in the field of commodity and food marketing. By night, Delancey moonlights as an online influencer, creating lifestyle content on her YouTube and Instagram platforms (@hellodelancey) for creative, ambitious young women interested in books, language learning, and self-study tips. Prior to her time as a dietitian, Delancey worked as a contracted host for the Volley Inc. podcast show “The Nutrition Nerd,” with over 550 episodes featured on Google Home and Alexa. Other organizations she has worked with include Sur La Table, Intelligent Beverages, The Cleveland Clinic, Universal Studios, and The US Department of Veterans Affairs.
